LifeHouse Cafe

In 2016 CNLC embarked on a co-design journey with the Carlton community to identify social enterprise opportunities that could provide meaningful training and employment opportunities for residents of the Carlton public housing estate with migrant and refugee backgrounds.

LifeHouse Café was the lead enterprise idea that emerged from this process, with broad community support for a shipping container café and community space on the estate that provides culturally appropriate food, local employment and training as well as a safe and welcoming gathering space for the community.

It is envisioned that this unique space can host meetings and cultural events as part of it’s revenue stream, and can develop off site catering and service delivery over time. The community team are now looking to develop and refine the business model and develop a viable enterprise that can attract seed funding and investment.
